In most cases, your magnetic paint should not need to be thinned. From time to time, during transportation, the magnetic paint can settle. So stir it first, and then if you need to thin the paint add 5 - 10% water to the tin and stir it thoroughly.
Only very absorbent surfaces should be treated with a primer before application.
Primers help make the surface non absorbent and will hide the black color (due to the magnetic particles) of magnetic paint.
Yes, you can paint using magnetic paint for wood, but make sure that the surface is smooth before applying. For smooth surface, fill any holes with filler and sand with 120-grade sandpaper. Then apply Magnetic Paint followed by the primer and whiteboard paint. Sand lightly after each coat of magnetic paint and primer. There will be some dust that's normal, just wipe away with a dry cloth after sanding.

How to Apply Magnetic Paint

Smarter Surfaces magnetic paint is designed for effortless application, eliminating the need for professional installation. With just a few simple steps, anyone can achieve a smooth and functional finish.

Step 1 - Prepare The Surface. Fill any cracks or defects with decorator's filler and sand it until smooth.

Step 2 - Apply Magnetic Paint. Thoroughly stir the magnetic paint and apply an even coat of the paint using a smooth roller.  

Step 3 - Once the first coat is dry, lightly sand the surface and then apply the second coat and once its dry, lightly sand again. Then apply the final coat of magnetic paint. It is possible to apply additional coats if you wish. Apply 3 coats or more if you want a strong magnetically receptive surface.

Step 4 - Apply a paint color. You can paint over your magnetic paint with any water based paint or color.
