Wallcoverings

Fire Certification

All of our wallcoverings have been certified for the classification of reaction to fire.

If a fire should occur, it is important that the building can be evacuated as quickly as possible in order to save lives. The time available for evacuation depends on the building materials and their fire properties.

The fire safety in construction products is determined through Euroclasses. The Euroclasses were introduced following a resolution by the Commission (2000/147/EEC) from February 8, 2000 to create a common platform for the comparison of the fire properties of construction materials.

Fire testing of the products was conducted in accordance with harmonized testing methods.

Smarter Surfaces’ wallcoverings have been independently tested and comply with both Euroclass B-s1-d0 and ASTM E84 standards.

Self Adhesive Whiteboard Films

Our self adhesive whiteboard films have been certified for classification of reaction to fire.

Fire ratings are important factors as they ensure the level of smoke and vapors emitted fall under certain standards suitable for use in commercial buildings such as schools and offices.

The fire safety in construction products is determined through Euroclasses in Europe and ASTM in the USA

Smarter Surfaces self adhesive whiteboard films have been independently tested and comply with both Euroclass B-s1-d0 and ASTM E84 standards.

Paint

Low VOC & Isocyanate Free

All of our paint products contain very low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Isocyanates are very toxic/harmful compounds used in some paints, Smarter Surfaces products contain zero isocyanates

VOCs are solvents that get released into the air as the paint dries. They are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids and include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects.

Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands.

We believe in delivering excellent quality paint products while minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring safe application and use in both commercial and domestic environments.

The VOC contents of each of our paints are listed below:

LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.

Smart Wall Paint has been independently tested and certified for LEED v4 and LEED 2009 specifications on VOC emissions and/or VOC content by complying with:

VOC emissions specifications in LEED EQ credit “Low-emitting products”:

the requirements of CDPH-IAQ (California Department of Public Health); and a TVOC below 0.5 mg/m3 in both office and class room.

VOC content specifications in LEED EQ credit “Low-emitting products”:

the requirements of CARB SCM 2007

the requirements of SCAQMD rule 1113 (2011)

the requirements of the EU Decopaint Directive 2004/42/CE

Smart Whiteboard Paint Fire Certification

Smart Wall Paint our award winning whiteboard paint has been independently tested and meets the Euroclass “B-s1-d0” standard.

Smart Whiteboard Paint – Indoor Air Comfort

Eurofins “Indoor Air Comfort” (IAC) product certification is an innovative tool to show compliance of a product with low VOC emissions criteria set out in Europe on two levels:

  • Standard level “Indoor Air Comfort – certified product” shows compliance of product emissions with the criteria of all legal specifications issued by authorities in the European Union and its Member States.
  • Higher level “Indoor Air Comfort GOLD – certified product” shows additional compliance of product emissions with the criteria of many of the voluntary specifications issued by most relevant ecolabels and similar specifications in the EU. Therefore certified products are those with the best-in-class low emissions, thus good for indoor air quality.

Smart Wall Paint has been independently tested to Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold Label which is equivalent of the French A+ standard.

Smart Whiteboard Paint – M1 Certification

M1 is the short version name of the Finnish voluntary emission classification of building materials. M1 is the name of the lowest emission class of that system.

The emission classification of construction products for interior use is based on an emission chamber test after 28 days. Chemical testing parameters are TVOC, 1A and 1B carcinogens (EU classification), formaldehyde, ammonia, and an odor acceptability test (modified ISO 16000-28 test, or CLIMPAC test; odor shall be neutral (or better acceptable) under the test conditions.

Smart Wall Paint has been independently tested and certified to comply to this standard.

Are Smarter Surfaces products Eco-friendly?

Smarter Surfaces has its origins in the environment. Our first product – the award-winning whiteboard paint, Smart Whiteboard Paint– was invented specifically to eliminate whiteboards and flip charts from offices and classrooms all over the world.

Since then, our product range has expanded to allow our customers to choose from a wide range of functionalities including: magnetic, projector, whiteboard and some products which offer more than one functionality. We also manufacture and sell a range of functional wallpapers, films and plaster, as well as paint.

We continue to invest in research and development to maintain our place at the cutting edge of functional surface technology. As well as transforming walls and rooms into collaborative spaces, our products are also safe to apply and safe to work in. That’s got to be good, right?
