Case Study: The Foundry

The Foundry Write on logos

Belfast today is a good news story, its troubles receding into the rear view mirror. In The Foundry in East Belfast, a project which reflects this perfectly, Smarter Surfaces has played a crucial role in literally bringing people together, helping them economically and doing all of this in an aesthetically enhancing way. Thus The Foundry illustrates three of the best characteristics of Smarter Surfaces, the global leader in contemporary wallcoverings.

  • We have helped entrepreneurs to have greater functionality in their private workspaces;
  • We are bringing people together in the common areas of this entrepreneurial co-working initiative; and
  • We have beautified the spaces involved in several different colours while enhancing those areas’ functionality.

Case Study: The Foundry, East Belfast

The Foundry, an initiative of the East Belfast Partnership, has as its motto “Inspire, Start, Grow,” and aims to give start-ups that leg-up that makes the difference. It is situated in an area where there has been historically high unemployment after the closure of so many of the older industries.

It has 24 “co-working” spaces where individuals can book a desk with all up-to-date facilities, wifi, internet connectivity, telephones, etc… for as little as an hour at a time to provide “out of home” workspaces for those who have none.

In addition there are ten private office suites, a large Private Meetings Room for conferencing and kitchen facilities.

Darren Toner, franchisee for Smarter Surfaces in Northern Ireland was given the brief to provide Smart Magnetic Whiteboard Paint surfaces in all offices, common working areas, and in the centre’s main foyer or hallway. He remarks:

“They wanted to create a collaborative working space, where people could share ideas and contacts, which was aesthetically pleasing in a number of colours reflecting the centre’s identity: yellow, to represent the two giant Harland and Wolff cranes, Samson and Goliath, greys and blacks and light blues [to reflect the area’s engineering heritage].  Each office has a different [theme] colour: one with yellow and whiteboard, the next with light blue and whiteboard,” and so on, all of the spaces being writable and interactive.

“They are delighted they have such large spaces now rather than being limited to small whiteboards.”

East Belfast Partnership, paid SmarterSurfaces NI this striking compliment when he saw the results:

“The design, presentation and functionality of the space was critical to the success of this project and this was achieved with the stylish and innovative introduction of Smarter Surfaces NI magnetic, write-on paint product. The product continues to impress those who visit and use the Foundry, both for the colour which it brings to the facility, but also for the unique innovation that it offers co-workers with the white board on the wall feature.

“I would highly recommend Smarter Surfaces NI, both for the product and also for the highly professional and personable service delivery from Darren and the team.”
