Company Journey

History

Smarter Surfaces, previously known as Smart Wall Paint, was founded by award-winning entrepreneur Ronan Clarke in 2011. At the time, Ronan had a construction business and was asked by a customer to fit out every wall of an office with whiteboards. Whiteboards were expensive, costly to ship, difficult to install and didn’t accommodate the site-specific nature of offices such as light switches, doors etc. So, Ronan came up with the idea of developing a coating that turned any smooth surface into a write-on-wipe-off whiteboard. This led to the formation of Smart Wall Paint.

The next two years were all about Research and Development. In November 2011, our first product - whiteboard paint, was launched, and so Smart Wall Paint White was born.

After three years of continued success, Smart Wall Paint Clear, was introduced in 2014. This whiteboard paint enables customers to paint a whiteboard surface on top of paint of any colour. In the same year, our Smart Wall Paint Contractor kits and Magnetic Paint product were also launched.

Following these launches, Projector Paint, Magnetic Wallpaper and Smart Whiteboard Sheets were added to our product range in 2015 - in a mission to provide customers with more functional product choices. Smart Wall Paint was renamed Smarter Surfaces in January 2015 to more accurately reflect our expanding functional coating product range.

Smarter Surfaces trades globally through distributors and numerous e-commerce websites. Our commitment to research and development remains so keep checking back to see our latest product innovations - all designed to make your surfaces smarter.
